We are writing to you to inform you about set changes that will be taking place in Science during the week beginning 26th of September.

During the first three weeks of term your child has been taught in a mixed ability set. All students have been learning about the particle model and states of matter.  During their first week students sat a Science assessment so that we could get a measure of scientific knowledge and skills based on the current Key Stage 2 curriculum.

We will be using their mark from this test together with their Key Stage 2 English and Mathematics levels to set the students in both bands according to their ability. This means that learning can be more closely tailored to your child’s needs.

Students should already be working through the ‘Prep for learning’ tasks. As you will already know the deadlines for the tasks are:

Week beginning 19th September: Tasks 1 and 2.

Week beginning 3rd October: Tasks 3 and 4.

Tasks 1 and 2 should be handed in to their current class teacher. Tasks 3 and 4 will be handed in to the teacher teaching their new set.

If your child is finding it difficult to complete their prep at home, the department runs a Prep club from 3pm to 4pm every Thursday in room 35. They are warmly invited to attend.

We hope your child’s experience of the Science curriculum so far has been positive and that they are settling into Mayfield school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail or the school switchboard.
