Mayfield School Leads The Country!

It was announced today that trials of first aid lessons in English schools begin this month, with the classes becoming compulsory from 2020, because, as the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said, the new health curriculum would give every child "the chance to learn life-saving skills".

Mayfield School is already a ‘beacon school’ for this, as we have participated in the annual ‘Restart a Heart Day’ for three years now. The bespoke timetable that Mr.Jackson runs for this Day, involving every Year 8 student following a specially designed ‘Restart A Heart-based timetable’ for the day, House Assemblies for our 1,000 senior students, assemblies for our primary students, and also training for our GCSE PE Students, and also parents of our students, has been replicated in schools across the rest of England, all based upon what has been set up and run in our school!

Preparations are well underway for this year’s forthcoming Restart A Heart Day, and (fingers crossed), we will also have the Hampshire Air Ambulance fly in and join us too!

Mayfield School is instrumental in helping The British Heart Foundation’ spread their message, because, as the BHF state, such lessons could help improve the UK's "shockingly low survival rates from cardiac arrests".

For any information about our Restart A Heart Day activities, please contact Mr.Jackson via the School Reception.
