On Tuesday and Wednesday, we welcomed eight Japanese student visitors who were over on the annual trip thanks to the linking of Portsmouth and Maizuru.

Nine Mayfield pupils gave our visitors a student’s perspective to schooling in England, by taking the Japanese pupils on a tour of the school, attending a lesson with them, sharing lunch together and then enjoying playing games together which encouraged pupils from both countries to talk about the similarities and differences. We were lucky enough to receive a presentation from the pupils from Maizuru all about their city which was very interesting.

After being in a school for two days, we allowed all pupils the opportunity to ‘let their hair down’ and went bowling to Gunwharf Quays. The Mayfield pupils were so warm and welcoming to our visitors, it was truly a pleasure to spend the time with them.

I would like to give my deepest gratitude to the following pupils for their help with this visit: Julita Baluta, Ruby Hughes, Tegan Jeram, Chloe Perman, Teoni Lloyd, Helena Williams, Tiana Fray, Lia Breeze-Jones and Lauren Taylor.
