5 April 2019
Mr David Jeapes - Headteacher
I would like to highlight the very full Easter revision programme that we are offering to pupils in Year 11. Staff members have committed a significant amount of their time to run over 50 revision classes. A copy of the final timetable can be found here. I am very grateful to all staff that have given up their holiday time in this way and hope to see lots of Year 11 accessing these opportunities. More about this in Miss. Hillier’s section. This is the last Mayfield Messenger this term, our next edition will be sent out on Friday 26th April. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a pleasant and peaceful Easter.
To help our families plan their time, we have produced an extract of the school calendar containing all of the keys dates for Summer 1. This can be downloaded here.
Miss Louise Hillier - Head of Senior
A busy week for all as we end the Spring term. I was proud to watch our Under 13 Girls in the Portsmouth Cup final on Tuesday where we narrowly lost. I am certain that future seasons will see great success for the team.
Our Year 11 Drama students have taken their practical exam this week and the feedback has all been very positive- well done to them! The Dance practical exams also finished this week and the PE department have run their last Btec Immersion Day. Well done to all the Year 11 pupils involved in these.
The Easter holidays are a fabulous time to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. It is also important that we keep our brains active! Year 11 will be revising for GCSEs, a full timetable is available here of the Summer exams. Year 11 can take advantage of the sessions running in school, which Mr Jeapes has referred to, so please get the dates and times into calendars with reminders set so that no opportunities are missed. Both Year 9 and Year 10 should be revising ready for their Mayfield's next half-term. A timetable is available here and English revision can be found here and Maths revision can be found here. Years 7 and 8 both have their Summer 1 Prep projects which they can be starting, these are on our website here. In addition to all of this please do encourage your child to be reading for pleasure over the break.
I wish you all a very Happy Easter and would just like to remind you all that school restarts on Tuesday 23rd April at 8:10am for Years 7 and 8 and at 8:40am for Years 9, 10 and 11. We look forward to seeing them all safely return with full uniform on- please note trousers must be school trousers and not leggings or jeans, pupils must wear black polishable shoes, not trainers, and in particular there must be no false nails or jewellery. Thank you for your support with this.
Mr Matt Stedman - Head of Primary
It was Year 1’s turn to shine this week with their performances of ‘Red Hot Safari’. I was so proud of the confidence shown by all of the children on stage. They did incredibly well to remember all of the words, songs and dances and there were some fantastic performance skills on show. Thank you to all of the parents and families who came along to watch the shows – your presence made it extra special for all us. Well done Year 1!
I have had the pleasure of hosting a Prep Reward Tea for each class this week. As ever, I have been amazed at the high quality of the children’s work. There has been some tremendous creativity and research on show in each year group. It is really evident that the children love working on these projects at home with their parents. Thank you for all of your support with your child’s Prep.
We finished the term with our Reward Easter Egg Hunt this afternoon. I was delighted to see over 300 children taking part in this event after they managed to reach 50 Achievement Points and no more than 3 Behaviour Points this half-term as part of our Respectful Challenge.
When we return after the Easter holidays, the children are allowed to wear the summer uniform again, which includes either a pair of shorts embroidered with the Mayfield M logo or the Mayfield summer dress. These items now both available from our two uniform suppliers, Skoolkit and Penelope Anne. Please note that shorts bought from other suppliers without the Mayfield logo are no longer allowed as part of the summer uniform. The summer uniform can be worn through until the October half-term holidays.
We have some exciting events lined up for the first week back after Easter. On Wednesday 24th April, we have the annual class photos. There will be a photograph taken of each class together with their teacher and teaching assistant and there will also be a photo of the whole Primary section together. Please can you see your child’s teacher if you do not want your child to take part in these photos.
Year 3 are also due to start their 10 weeks of swimming lessons on Wednesday 24th April. More information about the arrangements for these lessons can be found here.
On Thursday 25th April, Year R are going on their trip to Longdown Activity Farm. It promises to be a great day out and more information can be found here.
Finally, on Friday 26th April, we are holding our Inter-House Fun Run when children will try to run a mile for their Houses. Last year, Endeavour House managed to run the furthest distance and won the trophy for the Fun Run. Can the Blue House win this again? This year, we are using this event to support Mrs Beech (Year 4 TA) who is taking part in the London Marathon and we would be really grateful if your child could bring in a £1 voluntary donation to support Dementia Revolution. Thank you in advance for your support.
Mrs I Edwards - Pre-School & Nursery
What a fantastic way to end the Spring half term with our school trip to Marwell Zoo. The children found out lots of interesting facts about the animals they had seen and even the rain didn’t stop them from having fun.
When we return after the Easter break, the new topic will be ‘Mini Beasts’.
Have a lovely Easter and see you all back at school on Tuesday 23rd April.
