Mr David Jeapes - Headteacher
I would like to highlight the very full Easter revision programme that we are offering to pupils in Year 11. Staff members have committed a significant amount of their time to run over 60 revision classes. A copy of the final timetable can be found here. I am very grateful to all staff that have given up their holiday time in this way and hope to see lots of Year 11 accessing these opportunities. More about this in Miss. Hillier’s section.
To help our families plan their time, we have produced an extract of the school calendar containing all of the keys dates for Spring 2. This can be downloaded here.
Miss Louise Hillier - Head of Senior
Year 11 are working very hard in their last few weeks at Mayfield School and are making the most of all the opportunities given to them. In particular, there has been a good sign up for the Easter revision sessions. Next week pupils will get their individualised timetables which will show which sessions they should attend. A full timetable of opportunities is on our website here. Mr Gibson is coordinating our Year 11 and if you have any questions about any aspect of revision then please contact him by email on firstname.lastname@example.org. A reminder that there is a copy of the full Summer GCSE timetable on our website here.
Year 10 have now completed the application forms for applying to be Prefects next year. The Heads of House will now be considering the applications and a timetable of interviews will be drawn up in the next few weeks. A reminder that all Year 10 need to purchase a new tie before Monday 24th June, which is when we progress our academic year and they will move up to Year 11. These are available to purchase from the school via the Tucasi website, there is a link on our website here or from Skoolkit, a link to their website is here.
The Year 9 Options process begins after Easter and the Year 9 Parents Evening is on Thursday 2nd May (this is a moved date due to the success of our Rock Challenge team). Booking for this is now open and there is a link to the website here.
We have had sporting success this week with our Cheerleading squad winning the Portsmouth Cheer Off. Individually, Ruby Savage won an award for best effort and as a group they won the award for best tumbling. A fabulous effort from them all- well done!
Our Year 7 Rugby team took part in a Rugby Festival on Thursday with great success- 7 wins and just 1 loss. Well done to all involved!
Looking ahead to next Tuesday, 2nd April, I am delighted to inform you that our Under 13 girls are in the Portsmouth Girls Cup Final at Miltoncross School against ALNS. The match kicks off at 4:15pm and I know they would be delighted with any support- good luck girls!
Years 7 and 8 should now have completed their Spring 2 Prep projects and have handed them. They should have a signature in their planners from the teachers to acknowledge receipt of their work. The projects for Summer 1 are already available on our website here.
Could I please draw your attention to our uniform policy which is on our website here. In particular, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that trousers must be school trousers- leggings and jeans are not acceptable- and that shoes must be plain black and polishable. Thank you for your support with this.
Mr Matt Stedman - Head of Primary
There are several notable achievements to mention this week. Firstly, congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 football team who won their first matches of the season 14-0 and 10-0 last Friday. We clearly have some have very talented footballers in our school, but I was also really impressed with the great team work that was on display. Well done boys!
It is also congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby Team who took part in a Portsmouth Schools Tournament on Monday. They too played with great skill and determination with fantastic teamwork. Well done to Riley Morrissey who got a special medal for being player of the tournament.
I have also been really proud of the tremendous enthusiasm and commitment that the children have shown in the scootability sessions this week. The instructors have been highly impressed with the engagement of the children and their ability to take on the important messages about using their scooters safely.
Finally, I had the pleasure of reading some of the ‘Thank You’ letters that our Year 4 children have written to the team at Minstead. I was so impressed by the quality of the children’s writing that I wanted to share it with our wider school community and have published the letters on our website and Facebook page. Please have a look at this wonderful writing here.
There are lots of events to look forward to next week. Can I please remind parents that the Prep projects for Spring 2 are due in on Monday? I’m looking forward to hosting a group of children from each class for a Reward Tea to celebrate some of the best examples of Prep from each year group.
The Booking System for Summer 1 Extra-Curricular also closes on Monday at 12 noon. Please make sure that you have made your bookings before this time as late requests cannot be accepted.
Year 1 have been working incredibly hard on their performance of ‘Red Hot Safari’ and we are really looking forward to showing this playoff to parents and families on Thursday. There are performances at 9.30am and 2.30pm and it promises to be a real treat. Please make sure that you have reserved your tickets through the online booking system.
Then on Friday afternoon, we have our reward Easter Egg hunt for all of the children who achieved the Respectful Challenge this half-term. To qualify for this event, children need to have achieved at least 50 Achievement Points and no more than 3 Behaviour Points in the Spring 2 half-term. Well done to everyone who has qualified for this event.
When we return after the Easter holidays, the children are allowed to wear the summer uniform again, which includes either a pair of shorts embroidered with the Mayfield M logo or the Mayfield summer dress. These items now both available from our two uniform suppliers, Skoolkit and Penelope Anne. Please note that shorts bought from other suppliers without the Mayfield logo are no longer allowed as part of the summer uniform. The summer uniform can be worn through until the October half-term holidays.
Finally, can I remind parents that there is no early finish at the end of the spring term. The Primary section will finish at 3.30pm on Friday 5th April and Extra-Curricular will be running as normal with a 4.30pm finish.
