We are planning to send home your child’s progress report during the Christmas Break. If you have recently moved house or changed your contact details, please alert Mrs. Steph Manns on the email address above so that we can update our records.

The last day of this term is Friday 21st December. Please note that school will close early to all pupils

at 1.35pm. There will be no extra-curricular activities or tea time club on this day.

To help our families plan their time, we have produced an extract of the school calendar containing all of the keys dates for Autumn 2. This can be downloaded here.

Miss Louise Hillier - Head of Senior

Another week completed of the Autumn term. This week a significant number of our Year 11 have been taking their Unit 1 PE Btec examinations. They all worked very hard and a thank you should go to Miss Hutchinson and Mr Browning for the work they did preparing the pupils for these exams. We look forward to receiving the results.

Year 10 Parents Evening was very successful on Thursday. Thank you if you were able to attend and meet with your child’s teachers. If you have any follow up questions or you were unable to attend please contact your child’s tutor in the first instance and they will be able to direct you to the right person. A full list of tutors is available here. Available on the evening was our careers advisor as well as many of the local colleges. If you have any questions about careers please contact Mrs Denford, on denfordr@mayfield.portsmouth.sch.uk, in the first instance as she will be able to put your child in touch with the careers advisor.

A full list of dates for the year- including the Parents Evenings for all year groups- is available here. If your child is in Years 7, 8, 9 or 11 please do get the date for the Parents Evening in your diary to avoid a clash nearer the time.

Pupils in Years 7 and 8 will have received their Autumn 2 ‘Prep’ projects over the half term holiday and be working on them. A copy of the projects can be found here. If your child is having difficulty with any aspect of the projects, then they should talk to their tutor. If you wish to contact the tutor on their behalf a full list of tutors is available here.

Looking forward, we have the Christmas meals for each house in the week beginning the 17th December. It is an event we always enjoy as it is one of the best opportunities for each house to sit down together as a family. A voluntary contribution of £2.10 can be made through our online payment system. There is a link on the website here. If you do not routinely use our online payment system and are unsure how it works please contact Mrs Manns, our finance officer, on Manns@mayfield.portsmouth.sch.uk for assistance. Pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals do not need to pay for the Christmas meal.

Mr Matt Stedman - Head of Primary

Each year group has a Christmas event planned for the next few weeks and we are looking forward to welcoming the parents and families to join us for these celebrations.  The first of these events is the Year 1 and 2 Christingle Assembly on Thursday 6th December at 2.30pm.  The children will be presenting the Christingles that they have made and will be performing some Christmas songs – it promises to be a lovely event and I hope that you able to join us.  The details of all of the performances and events for the other year groups can be found here.

We are also looking forward to the Christmas dinners in the final week of term.  From Monday 17th to Thursday 20th December, children in Years 1 – 4 will join with the rest of their Houses in Seniors for their Christmas dinners.  On Friday 21st December, the Year R children will be having their Christmas dinner along with Little Sunbeams.  There is a choice of turkey or vegetarian option each day and special diets will be catered for as normal.  Children in Years R, 1 and 2 will receive their Christmas dinner as the free school meal for that day.  We are asking children in Year 3 and 4 to make a voluntary contribution of £2.10 for their Christmas dinner, which can be paid in cash to your child’s class teacher.  More details about these arrangements for Year 3 and 4 can be found here.

In assembly this week, I talked to the children about getting ready for winter.  As we head into the coldest months, it is important that children wear a proper coat, hat and gloves to school as we will continue to have playtimes outside throughout the winter months.  We also talked about the Homeless Hamper appeal that we are supporting this year to support the homeless over Christmas.  The aim is that each year group produces a hamper to be donated to a local charity for the homeless.  The list of items that can be donated to the year group hamper can be found here.  Thank you in advance for your support with this initiative.

We are also pleased to be supporting the Christmas Jumper Day in support of Save the Children on Friday 14th December.  More details about this event can be found here.

You should have received a letter in your child’s bookbag this week about our new online payments system called Tucasi.  This system is going live in January and will be used to process online payments for trips, Music lessons and Breakfast and Teatime Club, as well as giving your consent for trips without having to fill in the long form.  Please can you try to set up your account before the end of term.  The Finance Team have arranged for a number of drop-in sessions to help if you have queries or questions about setting up your account.  More details of these sessions can be found here.

I have had a request from Mrs Hall, our English Lead in Juniors, for any donations of unwanted books that your child may have now outgrown.  We are always looking for good quality books to enhance our book corners and the stock in the library and any donations would be gratefully received by the class teachers.

Finally, I hope that your child is making good progress with their Prep project for this half-term.  The hand-in date for this half-term’s Prep project is Monday 17th December.  Please see your child’s class teacher if you are not sure about what they need to do.

Mrs I Edwards - Pre-School & Nursery

Please could I ask you to support the school by you not sending your children into school with toys or objects from home.  We do not have the space to store such items, and if they become lost or mislaid during the day, it can cause your children to become quite distressed at home time.

The topic will continue with the theme ‘Christmas’.  We are still exploring ideas around the theme of giving and sharing; discussing the importance of thanking others for the things that they do for us.

Learning intentions linked to class subject are:

  • Encourage children to appreciate the importance of thanking others;
  • Create cards;
  • Create a kindness Christmas tree, making baubles, detailing how you have been kind to someone in class.

Letter sound is ‘L’, we look forward to your lovely creations.
