Mr David Jeapes - Headteacher
I would like to welcome any new subscribers and thank you for joining our mailing list. By September 2018 we will welcome 290 new pupils across the school. Please do encourage as many family members as possible to visit our website and sign up for the ‘Mayfield Messenger’ which is sent out every Friday during term time.
I am delighted to report that the FOM Summer Fete 2018 was a great success. Several hundred friends and families visited and the total raised by the FOM is likely to exceed last year’s record takings – thank you! We look forward to discussing with the pupils how best this money can be spent on improving the student experience at Mayfield.
The final whole school posting will be sent out at the start of the Summer Holiday. If you have recently changed your contact details, please do update them by sending an email to our SIMS Manager, Mrs. Helen Patis on firstname.lastname@example.org
As you will be aware the school has been running its ‘Hot Weather Protocol’ over the last few weeks. I can confirm this has now been extended until the end of the Summer term.
To help our families plan their time, please find a link to the Summer 2 calendar here. Please be aware that on the last day of this term we will run an alternative timetable. Therefore, on:
Friday 20th July - pupils in ALL Years will be dismissed at 1.35pm.
No extra-curricular or ‘tea time’ clubs will run on this day.
Miss Louise Hillier - Head of Senior
Year 6 have finished their second transition week with us and we have enjoyed getting to know them. If any parent has not yet returned the parent handbook we do need that urgently before the start of the summer holidays- please pop it to reception. We look forward to seeing Year 6 again in September looking smart in their new Mayfield Uniform.
On the website, you will find our complete uniform policy here. Could I draw all parents’ attention to the fact shoes must be plain black and polishable. I know the summer is traditionally when new school shoes are bought so please do check that any you purchase comply with our rules.
Year 11 will return after the holidays to examinations - details of these can be found here. Pupils would be well advised to ask their teachers before the summer what they should be revising.
We have seen some superb teamwork this week with the tutor groups demonstrating their tutor challenge skills! From the cup song to karate to Mexican waves it has been lovely to see the talent on offer. Please do ask your child what they have been involved with.
Finally, pupils in Years 8 should now be finishing their Summer 2 ‘Prep’ projects. Copies of the projects can be found here. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s tutor if you would like them to provide additional support for your child as they complete these projects. A full list of tutors can be found here.
Mr Matt Stedman - Head of Primary
We have had another fantastic week in the Primary section. On Wednesday, we hosted our Year 3 Talent Showcase with the finalists from Talent Show auditions competing for the title of Talent Show Winner 2018. The standard of talent was incredibly high and the bravery and confidence shown by all of the children who performed in front of the rest of the school was astounding. It was very a difficult decision for the judges and the overall winner was Vada Harris with her amazing Rubik’s Cube act.
On Thursday, Year 2 have been out on the final trip of the year to the Sea-city Museum in Southampton as part of their topic about the Titanic. Some incredible pieces of Prep homework have already come in for this topic including this model made by Igor Dobkowski which won him the Artist of the Week award for the whole school.
I have also had the pleasure of having two groups of Year R children to a Reward Tea this week for their Farmyard Prep projects. These were all incredibly imaginative and I was amazed at how the children have come on in their learning and confidence in the first years at Mayfield.
Thank you for your understanding while we have been resolving some technical difficulties with the Booking System, particularly for Year 3 and 4. I understand that these issues have now been resolved and that all parents should be able to book on to clubs for Autumn 1. We have significantly expanded the range of clubs and the number of places for September and there is good availability every evening at the moment. Please be aware that the Booking System closes at 12 noon on Monday.
All parents can now also book places for the Summer School via the Booking System; this also includes the parents of the new Year 3 children. Parents who were offered a priority place and have returned the paper slip do not need to book online as we already have your children down to come. The Summer School runs from 20th to 24th August and we will be sending letters to confirm your place and the final arrangements on Tuesday.
Your child’s annual report for 2017-18 is coming home this evening in their book bag. Please see or email your child’s teacher if you have any queries or questions about these reports. There are three forms also coming home in the same posting that need to be returned before the end of term. These are:
- An updated Consent Form for local trips and photography
- A SIMS contact sheet so that you can check that we have the correct contact details for your family
- An updated Main Authorised Person form for 2018-19 so that we have up-to-date information about who is authorised to collect your child from school.
Please pass all of these to your child’s teacher before Friday.
Finally, we are looking forward to our End of Year 2 Celebration Performance of ‘Pirates vs Mermaids’ on Wednesday. Our Year 2 children have done fantastically well in their Key Stage 1 Assessments and we are so proud of the progress that they have made since joining Mayfield. The play is the children’s opportunity to show their parents, families and the rest of the school how far they have come in their learning. There are two separate performances at 9.30am and 2.30pm and I hope that you will be able to join us for one of these. It is going to be fabulous!
Mrs I Edwards - Pre-School & Nursery
We are nearly at the end of the academic year, this can be an exciting and anxious time for some of your children. To ensure a positive transition into Primary School we are creating in class, a booklet called Starting School. Through this booklet and class discussions, we are finding out about their new teaching staff and classroom names. We will discuss all the new and exciting things they will be learning in Year R, and talk through any worries or anxieties.
Graduation is on Thursday 19th July, tickets are available for family and friends. Please bring your children into preschool on that day for 9.15am wearing school uniform and school shoes. You should then proceed to make your way to Mayfield main entrance and take your seat in the main hall. Refreshments will be available until the Graduation begins. Looking forward to seeing you all there, it's a lovely morning, I would suggest that you have tissues at the ready.
