Today, Friday 22nd June marks the end of the academic year for pupils in our Senior Section. Consequently, all pupils will move up a year on Monday 25th June. Pupils moving into Year 9 will no longer have to attend ‘Resilience’ sessions in the morning and pupils moving into Year 11 should, by now, have purchased their new tie. On Monday, we will welcome the Lord Mayor, Cllr Lee Mason who will issue prefect ties and announce the Head Girl and Boy as well as other senior pupil roles.
Please note that final preparations for the ‘Friends of Mayfield’ Summer Fete are well underway. I would be most grateful if you could help promote this event through your social media and other networks. A copy of the flyer can be found here. Also, if you, or a family member, is able to help out in any way, then please contact Mrs. Judith Firth, Chair FOM on FirthJ@mayfield.portsmouth.sch.uk
Please be aware that the school holds a small fund which is available to support any pupil who is eligible for the ‘pupil premium grant’ for one-off expenses such as buying revision materials or paying for a trip. Applications for this grant will be judged on a case by case basis and will be spread over the course of the year to ensure as many families as possible benefit from the support. If you would like to apply for consideration then please email our Attendance Manager, Mrs. Sharon Rolfe on Rolfe@mayfield.portsmouth.sch.uk
To help our families plan their time, we have produced an extract of the school calendar containing all of the keys dates for Summer 2. This can be downloaded here.
Miss Louise Hillier - Head of Senior
The last week of our academic year has been a very positive one. Our house sports event on Wednesday went very well and it was fabulous to see so many pupils taking part to win points for their House. We look forward to finding out who won in our final assembly in July! Thursday was our rewards day and it was lovely to see so many pupils being rewarded for doing the right thing all year. We expanded our offer this year to include activities on-site which were very popular and we will expand that further next year. If your child has ideas of what they would like to do as a reward event, please ask them to talk to their tutor so we can incorporate their ideas.
Friday we saw our Year 11 leave as we held our traditional leavers assembly. Many tears were shed as we wished Year 11 every success for the future. Please note that Year 11 are able to collect their results in school on Thursday 23rd August.
Next Monday we have our moving on assembly for the new Year 11. All Year 11 pupils need to come to school in their Year 11 ties. In that assembly the prefects will be announced and those pupils will swap their Year 11 tie for a prefect one. We are also looking forward to finding out who are new Senior Prefect team: Head Girl and Boy and Deputy Head Girl and Boy. These will be announced in the assembly.
Our Senior Section Presentation Evening is on Wednesday 27th June at 7pm. This is always such a lovely occasion to say well done to our pupils. If your child has been nominated for an award we look forward to seeing you on this evening.
Starting on Monday staff will be awarding 6R reward slips to pupils who are continually doing the right thing in school. Please keep an eye out for one coming home with your child!
You will be receiving your child’s report in the next week. Any questions regarding these can be directed to your child’s tutor, a list of tutors can be found here, or to Mrs Head, our assistant Headteacher in charge of reports, on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, pupils in Years 8 should now be working on their Summer 2 ‘Prep’ projects. Copies of the projects can be found here. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s tutor if you would like them to provide additional support for your child as they complete these projects. A full list of tutors can be found here.
Mr Matt Stedman - Head of Primary
The Primary section is set to grow again in September when we welcome another group of Year R children as well as 30 new pupils into Year 3. It was lovely to meet with the families of our new Year R children at the Parents Welcome Meeting this week and we are looking forward to welcoming you into the Mayfield family over the next few weeks. A lot of information was given out at this meeting and the powerpoint presentation is now available here.
On Thursday evening, our Year 2/3 choir were appearing at the Guildhall alongside children from 20 other Primary schools as part of the Portsmouth Schools Music Festival. Thank you to all of the parents who came along to support the event and the staff who have helped to get the choir up to such a high standard.
Thank you too for your generations donations to the Friends of Mayfield on our non-uniform day. You donated a tremendous range of raffle and tombola prizes that are going to be available at the Summer Fete on Saturday 7th July which will help the Friends of Mayfield to raise funds to pay for the additional extras that we wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise.
I also had the pleasure of taking a group of children on a reward trip to the Hollywood Bowl at Gunwharf this week. The children qualified for this trip by making excellent progress in their reading and they all thoroughly deserved their reward. The winners of the bowling tournament were Dolcie-Lou Mills and Albie Macleod from Year 3.
We have two very exciting events to look forward to next week. On Thursday, we have our End of Year Presentation Assemblies. Tickets for these events can be booked through our Online Booking System until 9.30am on Wednesday 27th June. Initially, families were limited to two tickets for these events, but any spare tickets will be made available from Monday in case you have additional family members who would like to come. Tickets will be sent home in the book-bags on Wednesday.
On Friday, we are going to get our Sorting Hat out to help us put the Year R children in their new Houses. We will also be letting the children know which class they are going to be in for next year and confirming this in a letter to parents that goes home that afternoon. We then have our Transition Days on 2nd and 3rd July when children will go to the new classes and spend the days with their new teachers.
Finally, pupils in Years R, 1 and 2 should now be working on their Summer ‘Prep’ projects. Copies of the projects can be found here. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you would like them to provide additional support for your child as they complete these projects. A full list of tutors can be found email addresses can be found here.
