Following the publication of GCSE results, Mayfield School has seen a significant improvement in pupil progress across the range of subjects. Headteacher, David Jeapes said:

"From this summer the government have changed the way in which they measure the performance of schools with the introduction of 'Progress 8'. I am very pleased to confirm that provisional results indicate that our pupils have performed well and that we have seen a significant improvement on 2015 results."

Of particular note, was the closing of the achievement gap between disadvantaged and non- disadvantaged pupils. Mr. Jeapes goes on to say:

"Provisional results indicate that the gap in progress between pupils in receipt of the pupil premium grant and others has now closed. This is a tremendous achievement for our pupils and staff and something we have been working towards for some time."

The collective results reflect 185 individual stories. Miss Hillier, Head of Seniors said:

"I would like to congratulate all of our pupils on their success and thank the staff for their hard work and our parents and carers for their support. It has been wonderful to see pupils, parents and staff coming together to make this happen. In particular some of our most able have achieved well with our four 'Wilkie Scholars' achieving 30 A*/A grades between them. They will now go on to study 'A' Levels at The Portsmouth Grammar School."

Other significant statistics saw 56% of students achieve 5 A*-C grades and 100% of students achieve at least 1 A*-G for the first time ever.

Since joining us, they have made astonishing progress with over 85% of the cohort achieving a 'Good Level of Development' at the end of the Early Years and in the recent Phonics Screening Test, 97% achieved the required standard; this is over 20% above the national level."
