Mayfield Curriculum 2016-2017

Students in Years 7 and 8 follow a curriculum with time allocated as per the curriculum allocation chart.

All Year 7 and 8 students start the day with Resilience. In addition we have introduced Accelerated Reader lessons to ensure literacy is developed and to pursue our desire to encourage children to read widely and often.

All of our Year 7 students learn Spanish as their language and then in Year 8 French is also introduced.

In Year 9 students continue with English, RE, PSHE, Maths, Science and PE; and accompany these with five option choices. Students receive guidance from the pastoral team when they choose their options, as well as receiving a series of assemblies from subject specialists. There is also a Parents Evening to support the decision process.

All Year 9 students have to select two options from History, Geography, Computing, French and Spanish and then three others. Students are offered a range of other subjects to select from including Music, Art, Dance, Drama, RE, ICT, Business Studies, PE, Food, Textiles and Resistant materials. At the end of Year 9 the students will drop two of these five choices and carry three of them on to GCSE at the end of their Year 11.

In Years 10 and 11 the students study English, RE, Maths, Science, PSHE and PE accompanied by three option choices. At the end of Year 9 they made the choices that they will study to GCSE.

The options available were:

GCSE: Art, Business Studies, Dance, Drama, History, Geography, ICT, Computing, French, Spanish, Textiles, Resistant Materials, Full Course PE and Leisure & Tourism.
