Mr David Jeapes - Headteacher
Both of the Heads of School have been running reward events this week to recognise the achievements of pupils in their sections. In the primary section, we held a rewards assembly and for the Seniors, a presentation evening. I would like to add my congratulations to all pupils that have won awards and recognise the commitment and support that our staff and community have given us over the year – it really is appreciated.
Recently, the ‘Friends of Mayfield’ made a significant donation towards upgrading the lighting equipment in the Main Hall. This will mean future school productions will benefit from this investment and avoid the school having to hire in expensive lighting. We are so grateful to the FOM for their generosity. With the Summer Fete almost upon us, please do consider purchasing some or all of the raffle tickets which we sent home. I am aware that the FOM have a number of projects they would like to support such as:
- Additional dress up areas – for pupils in the infant section;
- New bike racks – for pupils in the Junior section;
- Reinstate the radio station – for pupils in the Senior section.
Every penny they raise will go towards achieving some or all of these plans!
Finally, if you, or someone you know, would like to have a 3m x 3m stall at the Summer Fete, then please contact the FOM on firstname.lastname@example.org there are a small number left and they will be sold on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
To help our families plan their time, please find a link to the Summer 2 calendar here. Please be aware that on the last day of this term we will run an alternative timetable. Therefore on:
Friday 21st July - pupils in ALL Years will be dismissed at 1.35pm. No extra-curricular will run.
Miss Louise Hillier - Head of Senior
Our first full week on the new timetable has gone well with pupils settling well to their new classes. The highlight of the week was presentation evening on Thursday which was an absolute delight. I would like to say “well done” to all our winners and “thank you” to all the friends and family who came along to support them. There is a link to all the winners here.
Next week we have Mr Brian Wilkie (MBE) in school on Friday 7th July to launch the Wilkie Scholarship to Year 11 in a special assembly. Every year he awards two fully funded scholarships to the Portsmouth Grammar School Sixth Form to Mayfield pupils.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our community that mobile phones, ipods, mp3 players or similar are not allowed and should not be brought to school. If you wish to speak with your child during the school day then please contact ‘pupil services’ using the contact details below. If you wish your child to carry a phone, then they should keep it switched off and away throughout the school day – this includes break and lunch times. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Finally, pupils in Years 8 should now be working on their Summer 2 ‘Prep’ projects. Copies of the projects can be found here. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s tutor if you would like them to provide additional support for your child as they complete these projects. A full list of tutors can be found here.
Mr Matt Stedman - Head of Primary
Thank you to all of the parents and other family members who joined us for yesterday’s Presentation Assembly. There was so much to celebrate and I’m sure that you were very proud of your child’s achievements over the last year. I thought that the children were so brave for walking up on the stage in front of all of those people and their singing was amazing. The photographs of all of the groups of prize winners can now be seen on our website via this link.
There are a number of events coming up between now and the end of term:
- On Wednesday 5th July at 3.30pm, Mrs Hall is giving an E-safety talk about how you can keep your child safe online. This talk will take place in the Dolphins classroom and will be repeated at 4.30pm;
- On Friday 7th July, we have our Infant Section Sports Day on the West Field. We will open the Infant Gate at 2pm and the events will start at 2.15pm. The Friends of Mayfield have organised a ‘social’ picnic for after this event which finishes at 3pm, so please bring your picnic blanket along with you that afternoon. The Sports Day is weather dependent and we will inform by text if we need to postpone at short notice due to a forecast of rain.;
- On Thursday 13th July, we have our new Year 3s giving their End of Key Stage 1 Performance of ‘Pirates vs Mermaids.’ There is a morning performance at 9.30am and an afternoon show at 2.30pm and further information about tickets will be sent out next week
Places on the Summer School from 21st to 25th August are going to be made available to all children from Monday. There will be a letter in book-bags that gives further information and a reply slip if you would like to sign your child up to join in.
We are also sending home details of the Summer Reading Challenge in the book-bags. This year’s challenge is called Animal Agents and this is a great way to ensure that your child keeps up with their reading over the long summer holidays. More details can be found via this link https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
Finally, as we head towards the end of term, we are always grateful of donations of uniform that your children have now outgrown. Please feel free to donate any good quality blazers, PE kits or school skirts or trousers to your child’s teacher.

Letter sounds for the week ‘Q’ and ‘R’.
Finally, a reminder, that extra tickets are now available for the Graduation - all family and friends welcome.
On Thursday 29th June, pupils throughout our Infant Section were awarded certificates for their amazing efforts. Mr. Stedman lead the assembly and awards were given for:

Mr. Jeapes also presented certificates to pupils who demonstrated their ‘Learning Super Powers’ which are:

We are so proud of all award winners!
This years leavers prom will be held at the Marriott Hotel portsmouth on Thursday 6th July.

Dinner will be followed by a disco with carriages at 11pm.
If there are any dietary requirements and you have not already informed Miss Hutchinson, please do so asap.
Artist of the week this week is Dani Turner in Year 10! Dani has created a fantastic stencil inspired by the street artist Banksy. To create this Dani drew the design onto paper and carefully cut around the shapes with a craft knife. Finally then printed through the design using acrylic paint to reveal this creative and bold image. Well done!
